Perm Sec. CommendS Relationship Between Govt And NUJ

The Permanent Secretary Ministry of Information and Communications, Mr. Sam Woka has congratulated the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) Rivers State Council for peaceful conduct of the Union election.

Mr. Woka made this declaration recently at the Ministry’s Conference room when the newly elected executives of NUJ paid him a courtesy visit.

The Permanent Secretary commended the cordial relationship between the fourth Estate of the realm and the State Government adding that the provision of NUJ Secretariat has actually proved the mutual relationship.

He charged Journalists to abide by the ethics of the profession in order to build confidence in the profession, stressing that Journalists should ensure that they have relevant information before publication.

Mr. Woka also advised the new executives to always seek the advice of the former executives to enable them succeed, ”the day you begin to insult yourselves, others will insult you” he added.

He explained that the maintenance of the building should be the most priority of the executives, adding ”never you eat your tomorrow in a day”. And urging them to be good ambassadors of the State.

The Permanent Secretary assured the NUJ that the request for buses, installation of transformer and assistance to attend the Triennial Delegate Conference at Abuja would be transmitted to the Executive Governor of the State, Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike.

Responding, the newly elected Chairman of NUJ, Mr. Ayo- Tamuno Omoni thanked the State Government and the Permanent Secretary for their support adding that NUJ Rivers State Council would continue to maintain the cordial relationship between the Union and the State.

Mr. Ayo-Tamuno promised that his executives would ensure that the facilities are maintained and protected.

Highlight of the visit was the official handover of the keys to the new building by the Permanent Secretary to the Chairman and his executives.
