The people of Ke Community in the Degema Local Government Area of Rivers State have raised alarm over the frequent killings in the town.
The community spoke through its youth President, Comrade Akonte Pokubo on Wednesday. The community slammed one Soye Owanaba Ekpo for committing different kinds of atrocities such as killing, sea piracy, kidnapping, armed robbery and other criminal offences.
Comrade Pokubo alleged that due to the clandestine activities of Soye Owanaba Ekpo, the domestic economy of the community has dwindled.
“We are no longer doing or going about our legitimate business because of the evil plans of Soye Owanabo Ekpo”, Comrade Pokubo alleged.
He revealed that the said Soye Owanaba Ekpo is paternally a native of Akwa Ibom State and maternally from Ke/Kula communities.
Comrade Pokubo recalled that the notorious murderer in gruesome manner killed Kenneth Promise in 2012, adding that in “December 5th, 2013, the same Ekpo killed 10 persons namely: Mpaka Daniel, Selepiri Promise, Mamadi Igonikon, Rowland Atiegoba, Atubo O. Joshua and other non-indigene”.
On the 25 September, 2014, the community also alleged that, Soye Owanaba Ekpo waylaid a passengers’ boat along the Sombreiro Rivers (kilometer 45) and carted away two (2) Yahama 75 horse power engine boat.
The community lamented the unholy behaviour of the said dreaded killer, nothing that, he terrorizes the rivers and the creeks within and outside Ke town.
The youth leader maintained that during the voter’s registration exercise, last year, Soye Owanaba Ekpo’s killer gang unleashed terror on one Somina Alalibo, “and by the special grace of God, I rescued him and when I personally reported the matter to the Chiefs’ Council, but he (Ekpo) said the boy deserved death. That is wickedness”.
Comrade Pokubo added by saying that, the heartless killer last month allegedly abducted a man from Andoni, and collected ransom of N3.5m from his relations, regretting that Ekpo also forceful extorted N100, 000 from members of Ke Community Trust.
“I think very soon this Pharaoh of Ke town will see the Moses”, Comrade Akonte said, sadly pointing out that Soye Owanaba Ekpo has murdered over thirty (30) persons.
The community called on government and the relevant security agencies to intervene and safe their lives from the hands of the notorious killer and his dangerous gang.
Meanwhile a strong worded petition has been sent to the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Command, dated February 13, 2015 written by Madam Queen O. Erekosima and Madam Simel Benibo, the mothers of Rowland Atiegoba, Kenneth Promise and Mpaka Daniel, the three of the deceased allegedly killed by the dreaded Ke born cultist (Soye Owanaba Ekpo)
The mothers through their counsel, Yaagua, Dumka Vincent, accused Soye Owanaba Ekpo of terrorism, thus causing unnecessary panic in the community. ###
