Rivers: Kalabari IYC Wants Council Chairmen Dissolved

The Kalabari Se Ikpangi of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) has called for the outright dissolution of the chairmen of the twenty-three (23) Local Government Areas of Rivers State.

At a press briefing in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, the chairman of the Kalabari IYC, Comrade Prince Sobrasua Odum described the conduct of the council election as “illegal and unconstitutional”, therefore cannot stand. He applauded the Rivers State House of Assembly for its decision to empower the governor of the state; Chief Ezenwo Nyesom Wike to dissolve the Prof. Augustine Ahiazu led Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), and also that of the Judicial Service Commission.

Comrade Odum who had earlier advised the members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) not to cause problems in the state, adding that the governor, Chief Wike is capable of bringing development into the state. The Kalabari IYC boss hailed the Governor, his Deputy Dr. Mrs. Ipalibo Harry-Banigo, Hon. Ralpdoff Brown, lawmaker representing Bonny/Degema Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Dr. Farah Dagogo, legislator representing the Degema Constituency in the Rivers House of Assembly on their electoral victory and subsequent swearing in.

He also felicitated with Sir. Christian Opunabo Inko-Tariah over his appointment as the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Rivers State Government.

Comrade Odum prayed God to give them the wisdom and knowledge to pilot the affairs of the state and the nation to the greater height.

The Kalabari IYC chairman, however advised all the elected officers to ensure that they work towards the development and the progress of the Kalabari kingdom.

He raised alarm over the increasing rate of kidnapping and Sea Piracy along the Bakana creeks in the Degama Local Government Area. Comrade Odum called for intensive and extensive security beef-up especially at the entrance to the Bakana community.

He also hailed the Amanyanabo of Bakana Community, HRH O.O. Odum VIII, for supporting the present administration under the leadership of Chief Barr. Wike.

According to him, the immediate past administration headed by Mr. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi was not treating the people of Bakana well, but his supporters are also dividing the community into different parts.

“I thank God that Wike is now the governor of Rivers State, and I know that Bakana community will develop,” Comrade Odum said.

He assured the governor that the members of the Kalabari IYC will give him all necessary support to move the state forward. ###
