Promotion Exam: Rivers Civil Service Commission

Examination malpractice has eaten deep into the fabric of the Nigerian Society. It bleeds into all the academic institutions namely: Primary, secondary, tertiary institutions and other related establishments.

Information reaching our newsdesk had revealed that, some staff of the Rivers State Civil Service Commission have entangled themselves in bribing. The information further disclosed that, civil servants who are participating in the ongoing promotion examination   were tasked to pay huge amount of money so as to scale through the examination.

Dependable sources have it that civil servants who are eager to pass the examination so as to be promoted to the next grade level were asked to pay a sum of fifty thousand naira (N50,000) if not forget the chances of passing the promotion examination.

The sources further hinted this weekly that, in the past, civil servants who were unable to scale the promotion examination was as a result of not bribing their way through.

“Some staff of the commission are going home with millions of naira after taking bribe from civil servants taking the promotion examination”, a female civil servant in the Rivers State Ministry of Environment informed our reporter.

Another civil servant who pleaded for anonymity told our correspondent, “Now that we have started writing the promotion examination, some staff of the commission going round telling us that “no payment of N50,000 bribe no promotion. What type of nonsense this is!”

According to him, this is what they have been doling in the past that, civil servants who do not have money to bribe their way, failed the promotion examination. He blasted the commission of not doing anything to rectify the ugly situation.

Another civil servant who simply identified himself as Comrade John Otuka, regretted that the way and the manner in which the promotion examination is being conducted, adding that some staff of the commission have made nonsense of the exercise, because of their selfish desire.

He lamented that the staff of the commission have ruled out merit in sitting for the promotion examination except one greases the palm of a staff or staffers of the commission.

Comrade Otuka called on the state government and the relevant authorities to intervene quickly to save the civil servants from the unethical behaviour perpetuating by some staff of the Rivers State Civil Service Commission. #
