‘Don’t Incite N’Delta Youths’

A Niger Delta activist, Mr. Famous Daunemigha, has cautioned the leader of the Niger Delta Volunteers Force, Mujahid Dokubo-Asari, over his recent comments in which the ex-militant allegedly incited the Niger Delta youths against the President Muhammadu Buhari administration.

Dokubo-Asari was alleged to have called for the resumption of militant activities against the backdrop of Buhari’s speech that the amnesty programmes for former Niger Delta militants would terminate in December 2015.

Daunemigha noted that every known ex-militant in the region had embraced the new national leadership and expressed willingness to work with the new President.

Daunemigha, who was the former Vice-President of the Ijaw Youths Council Worldwide when Dokubo-Asari was the President of IYC, said the Niger Delta region could no longer be a battle ground for Dokubo-Asari’s selfish benefits.

Speaking on the deadline for amnesty programme with journalists in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State capital, on Monday, the former IYC leader said former President Goodluck Jonathan was president for six years but could not review the terminal date of the amnesty programme.

“I expect the likes of Dokubo-Asari to accept the realities on ground instead of mourning more than the bereaved,” he stated and warned that youths in the Niger Delta region should not make themselves vulnerable to the antics of Dokubo-Asari by calling for the resumption of militant activities in the region.

He, however, called on all well-meaning Ijaw elders and youths to give their support to Buhari, saying the President meant well for the region.
