Dr Dawari George, a member of the House of Representatives seeking re-election, at weekend urged voters in his constituency to remain calm and law-abiding.
George (APC-Asari-Toru/Akuku-Toru Constituency) told newsmen in Port Harcourt that elections were not held in his constituency because of alleged irregularities.
He alleged that members and supporters of his party, the APC, were intimidated and chased away from polling units.
“As a patriotic Nigerian committed to the deepening of our democracy, I have conducted myself and advised my supporters to comply with the law.
“It is for this reason that we have been patient with all parties concerned with the election process,” he said.
The legislator said that “even in the face of unwarranted intimidation and provocation, we have conducted ourselves in an exemplary manner for the sake of the general good of our country.’’
George said that it was regrettable that the electoral process, which was embraced by all Nigerians, had been compromised in Asari-Toru and Akuku-Toru Local Government Areas.
“We call on INEC to formally declare that the elections did not hold in Akuku-toru and Asari-Toru local governments of Rivers State.
