Few months from now the tenure of the current Vice Chancellor (VC) of the Rivers State University of Science And Technology, RSUST, Prof B.B Fakae will be expired.
Competent sources hinted this weekly that, Prof. Fakae might finish serving his statutory tenure as V.C. of the RSUST in July this year. Though the exact date of his exit is not known, but knowledgeable source says it will not exceed Wednesday July 1, 2015.
Information had it that the VC has began putting all necessary documents and papers in order as the month of the expiration of his tenure approaches.
However, impeccable sources informed this publication that, the VC might quit before the month of July as many Governing Council Members of the institution are planning to leave before May 29, 2015 to avoid disgrace of abrupt dissolution of the Governing Council by the incoming administration before July.
Prof. Fakae’s appointment as the VC causes several misgiving at different quarters in the institution. Lecturers and staff protested against Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi over Prof. Fakae’s appointment as some members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), RSUST chapter embarked on industrial action.
The ASUU members accused Governor Amaechi of imposing Prof. Fakae on the institution.
It is a well known fact that before the coming of Prof. Fakae, the entire learning environment of the RSUST was in mess.
However, as Prof. Fakae assumed office as VC, he gave face lift to the institution, which has now taken its rightful place in the educational sector.
As Prof. Fakae moves towards the expiration date of his tenure, no fewer than eight (8) professors are line up for the job of the VC. With time we shall make their names known to the public. ###
