Rivers swan Honours Sports Developers

The Rivers State Chapter of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria on December 2011 honoured some of the personalities that had contributed to sports development in the Niger Delta in their special way in the year 2011.
The sports writers body honoured the personalities in their Dinner cum award night which at the end of the year 2011.
Notable amongst them are Solomon Lah for single handed sponsoring a football competition around the Ogoni speaking local government areas. Not stopping from there, using the talents discovered to feed other notable clubs in both Nigeria and abroad.
Former commissioner for sports, Rivers State, Allwel Onyesoh too was honoured and awarded for his seasoned sports development, while in the saddle is Sports Commissioner of Rivers State.
Hon. Allen Emah was also awarded as one who had encouraged local talents in soccer. including Hon. Victor Giadom who was awarded for his role in setting a record in laying the foundation of Gokana Unity Stadium and maintaining Gokana Unity Soccer annual soccer competition.
Felix Obuah, was awarded and honoured for his single handed sponsoring a team in the local league, NDDC was honoured and awarded for their role in sponsoring sports in the Niger Delta region, Stanley Eguma, honoured and awarded on behalf of Dolphins FC becoming champion in the premiership league in Nigeria and Late Veteran sports writer, Mazi Njoku posthumously awarded and honoured for his contribution in sports reporting.
The award night was spiced with a seasoned lecture by Chief Adokiye Amiesemaka (MON) on Nigerian football, the way forward.
In attendance were Barrister Christopher Green, Nigeria Football Federation, Technical committee Chairman, who took time to clear some clauses misunderstood by Nigerians in the federation football constitution. Kester Buzugbe, General Manager, Radio Port Harcourt 91.7, among others.
Barrister Green in his speech said that age cheat in Nigeria Football will soon be a thing of the past.
Meanwhile, the representative of the Hon. Commissioner for Sports, Rivers State has disclosed that Ecowas game committee has been inaugurated. He also said Hon. Fred Igwe said his sports ministry will also partner with SWAN, Rivers State to make sports develop.
However, Adokiye Amiesemaka has urged sports writers in the state to be courageous to report sports with boldness instead of thinking of money in reporting sports.
The night came to a close with dinner and dance by members of SWAN, Rivers State.
