An Ogoni Traditional Ruler, HRH King Suanu T.Y. Baridam (JP) declared that the Ogonis are not demanding for independency, but a political autonomy within the Nigerian State.
King Baridam who was speaking to the press confirmed that Ogoni is on the right track, advising the Ogonis not to lose hope.
King Baridam said this at Bori, while speaking to newsmen called on the immediate bringing back of “Ogoni Star Newspaper” to the newsstand to properly inform the people, pointed out that the Ogonis need current information .
Concerning the Ogoni Project 2015 which demands Ogoni person as a governor of Rivers State, he said that the Ogonis are not saying that there is no eligible person to rule, but should be given opportunity to rule in 2015.
In his speech, the MOSOP President Legborsi Pyagbara advocated for Ogoni governor, calling on other ethnic groups in the state to give their support for the actualization of this struggle.
He also said that the people have discussed the UNEP Report and asked the Ogonis to go for their voter’s card and registration and assured the re-establishment of Ogoni Star Newspaper soon for better information of the people. ###
