The fears of whether the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and the All Progressives Congress, APC in Rivers State would contravene the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) electoral guideline on the conduct of their primaries and subsequent submission of candidates particularly that of the governorship has been laid to rest when a chieftain of the APC in the state who never wanted his name on print made certain revelations why his party engages in postponing its planned primaries.
According to the APC chieftain, they are working to ensure that the former Education Minister, Barr. Nyesom Wike does not contest the PDP primaries so as to enable them unveil their candidate, adding that the candidacy of the former Minister of Education is a treat to them in the APC.
The source disclosed further that, the reason for its postponement of primaries was the strong feelings that Barr. Wike might likely not make it to PDP primaries, hence would give them an edge to announce the APC candidate.
On why their concern and headache was on Wike’s candidacy and PDP, the APC chieftain reveals that if PDP eventually features the former Minister of Education, it then implies that the (APC) candidate whoever he might be would find it very difficult to sail through the hurdle of elections, hence the worries and attacks.
Explaining further, he alleged that the 16 aggrieved governorship aspirants of the PDP are soliciting for support from the APC led by Governor Amaechi and for a possible defection to vote against the PDP and an upland governor.
“If we in the APC have to win Rivers State come 2015, the likes of Barr. Wike, the former Education Minister should not be allowed to even participate in the primaries of his party – PDP, because he is a big fish that even the governor is very careful about. If Wike is out of the way, any candidate of APC would have a breathing space but if otherwise, I tell you it is going to be a very serious battle, like it or not with the governor on seat APC will have it very difficult, infact hot to contend the state because PDP and Wike are seriously preparing to take over the state at all costs. Another thing we are doing its to liaise with the aggrieved PDP governors to ensure that he Barr Wike loss the race or they defect to APC to help us win the 2015 governorship race. But one thing is sure, if Wike finally emerges in the PDP, the implication is that some of us in the APC minus me, would surely cross carpet to PDP while some of PDP would come to APC, the race is at its pick and the battle is so severe and fierce but all has to be careful about it.
