Who Is Calling For Wike’s Disqualification?

ONYESOM WIKEChief Ezebunwo Nyesom Wike is now a household name in Rivers State. His name rings bell like Obafami Awolowo, Nnamdi Azikiwe, Tafawa Balewa, Herbert Macaulay and other nationalists in the colonial era.

Wike is the man of the moment that makes democracy to be alive in Rivers State as he indicates interest to succeed Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi in May 29, 2015. His gubernatorial ambition has caused agitations in several quarters especially in the coastal axis of the state.

Of recent, 16 governorship aspirants on the platform of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) called for the disqualification of Chief Barrister Ezebunwo Nyesom Wike.

Their reasons demanding for his disqualification are not so visible. Moreso the aggrieved 16 gubernatorial aspirants are also asking for cancellation of the penultimate Saturday’s PDP Ward Congress. How can one demand for cancellation of an exercise he or she does not participate? It does not make good sense.

The constitution of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Article 21(6) spelt out the offences and punishment of a member. Having glanced through them, Chief Barr. Ezebunwo Nyesom Wike has never faulted anyone. He is a commited party faithful, who has implored several strategies to reposition PDP in Rivers State.

Most of the governorship aspirants who are now calling for Wike’s head were sleeping and snoring when Chief Barr Ezebunwo Nyesom Wike was busying restructuring and repositioning the party in the state.

I think calling for Wike’s disqualification in the governorship race does not hold water. After all he is a Rivers man and also qualified to contest.

‘His governorship aspiration cannot, and can never cause breakdown of law and order in Rivers State as perceived by some individuals in the state. Chief Ezebunwo Nyesom Wike should be allowed to contest. Unequivocally for now, he is the only competent guber aspirant that has the muscles to challenge the Governor Chibuike Amaechi led opposition APC in February 28, 2015 governorship election.
