Keshi’s Sweet Bitter Legacies

KESHIThe number one coach of the African continent, Stephen Okechukwu Keshi is a man of destiny. He came, he saw and conquered. And bowed out in a controversial manner or way.

When Nigeria failed to qualify for the AFCON through Coach Siasia, Keshi was called in to be the messiah to qualify Nigeria for the AFCON. He came, did qualify Nigeria and won the AFCON for Nigeria for the third time in 19 years with a relentively new players of mixed breed, old and young players from the domestic league and foreign.

Keshi’s name was on song, Keshi is the best coach, Nigerians sang. The same mouth Nigerians used in praising Keshi was used to condemned Keshi when the tide changed “Keshi is not a good coach, Keshi is not a coach at all, they all started saying, sack Keshi, sack him, he took Nigeria to the world cup and won only one match.

He came and worked without contract to mange the Super Eagles for the purpose of qualifying the Eagles in the 2015 AFCON. He failed in his first match where Congo beat the Super Eagles at Calabar 3-2, failed in his second match as Sudan beats Nigeria 1-0 and played goalless draw with South Africa.

The only match he won in the qualifiers here in Abuja, when the Super Eagles tailsman, the Okadaman, Musa Ahmed scored all 2 goals to celebrates his birthday to redeemed Nigerians pride in that encounter after Sudan had beaten Nigeria at their home soil 1-0.

The emergency of a new NFF president has to take quick decision to save Nigeria’s image, considering the situation under Keshi control. Nigerians no longer have confidence in their champion coach hence decided that he should be sacked.

Keshi was sacked for poor results in his place consortium of coaches were appointed with Amodu heading the crew.

Keshi is gone, no more a game for him to play or no more job for him to defend the trophy he won with the Super Eagles, the best African coach courtesy of winning the AFCON with the Super Eagles.

Whether sacked or not Keshi remain a legend. First as a player that won the Nations Cup and secondly as an indigenous coach that won the AFCON still with his favourite team the Super Eagles that he captained to lift the 1994 Nations cup and qualifying the Eagles for the world cup after also playing in the world cup with the Super Eagles. ###
