One of the frontline aspirants in the 2015 general election in Rivers State under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Nimi Walson-Jack has condemned in totality the rate of attacks by gun men on some of the aspirants.
Hon. Nimi Walson-Jack stated that the attack on the aspirants during a press conference recently was “barbaric, devilish and undemocratic”, saying they will seek for full investigation into the incident.
He said those fanning the ember of violence in the state is “doing a lot of disservice to our people and our dear state”, while appealing to political actors in the state to show restraint and eschew political violence, noting that managers of political parties must acknowledge that all aspirants and would be candidate should be treated equally as they compete in election.
Hon. Walson-Jack further explained that the incident is an eye opener to the state authorities and the law enforcement agents as they will provide equal opportunity to all in the race.
He stated the need for authority to stamp out all issues relating to militancy and cultism in Rivers State especially on thuggery and electoral violence.
He, therefore challenge River people to respond to these issues and challenges to stem down the rate of gangsterism cropping up in the state.
The aspirant under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) advised youths to desist from cannon fodders in their bid to clinch power at all cost especially by power hungry politicians in the state.
Hon. Walson-Jack stated that the alleged attackers are members of the Grassroot Development Initiative (GDI) as police has disarmed the members found with a gun. ###
