PDP Woos South APC Members For Jonathan

The Peoples Democratic Party has initiated a plan to woo members of the opposition, the All Progressives Congress in the South-South region, to vote for President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015.

The National Vice-Chairman of the party in South-South, Dr. Cairo Ojougboh, stated this on Monday at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.

Ojougboh, who spoke with journalists after his visit to the national officers of the party, said that his mission as the new National Vice Chairman of the region was to deliver the zone 100 per cent to President Jonathan in 2015.

He added that in spite of security challenges in the country, President Jonathan was performing well, adding that the leadership of the PDP in the zone would speak with their brothers in the opposition APC from Edo and Rivers states to support Jonathan in 2015.

He said, “We will talk to them, we will campaign to APC members in Rivers and Edo states. We shall work extra hard by talking to our brothers in the other parties in the states to come and join this train that is heading Nigeria to the right direction.

“We shall go to everywhere in the South-South and we will work 24 hours in the tradition of the PDP. We will work to ensure that we do not lose any seat that is on the card to be contested for.

“We will campaign and beg our brothers even in the other parties to cooperate with us because this is a South-South agenda.”

He said that the zone was very determined to ensure the re-election of President Jonathan in 2015, adding that it was evident in the 4,000,000 signature received by the Transformation Ambassador rally in Port Harcourt from those who wanted him re-elected.

He said the zone was convinced that President Jonathan had done very well in all sector of the country`s economy and should be re-elected.

He said, “We are convinced that the transformation agenda is getting Nigeria out of the woods and that in spite of the country`s security challenges, the President is riding on.”

He added that for the country to continue moving forward, there was the need to give President Jonathan more time to complete his transformation agenda.

Asked if the party would also speak with the Rotimi Amaechi and Adams Oshiomhole, governors of Rivers and Edo states respectively, he said he would not want to be specific because “I don’t want to reveal our strategy to our enemies.”
