Okrika Chiefs In Dirty Land Deal…Youths Threaten Mayhem

Last week, chiefs, elders, youths and women of Ibaka town in Okrika Local Government Area of Rivers State converged at the community town hall to deliberate on the alleged illegal allocation of land to some chiefs of the community at the sand filled axis of the town. The executive chairman of Okrika Local Government Council, Hon. Tams George was also in the said meeting. The Newswriter gathered that eleven (11) plots of land were allotted to each of the war canoe houses, but it was later discovered some chiefs numbering over eighteen (18) clandestinely allotted another 50 by 50 plots of land each to self.

Sources informed this weekly that, the secret land shady deal causes ripples within the Ibaka community as the youths of the area threatened to cause mayhem, if the chiefs go ahead to develop the said controversial lands.

Impeccable source told this weekly that, the community had written strong worded petition to the council boss and the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Okrika, to call the said chiefs to order to avoid confusion and crisis in the community.

The youths had earlier accused the chiefs for hijacking the employment chances at the ongoing construction of bridge from Okrika to Port Harcourt, thereby impoverish them.

The council chairman, Hon. George called for calmness and promised to look into the matter so that there will be no problem in the area. ###
