Be Vigilant Against Boko Haram, Police Commissioner urges Rivers Residents

Tunde OgusankinSequel to threat credited to the Boko Haram sect that its members will attack East and South-South region, Mr. Tunde Ogunsakin said there is need to strategize against the insurgence.

Speaking at a one day sensitization workshop organized by the Rivers State Police Command, last weekend in Port Harcourt, Mr. Ogunsakin who disclosed that the essence of the workshop was to prevent the Boko Haram activities from getting to Rivers State, urged all security outfits and residents of Rivers State and South-South zone to be vigilant and strategise against the insurgence.

Mr. Ogunsakin who noted that security should not be left to the police alone but involve the entire public to always alert the security agencies on any strange object to tackle the sect.

On information given to a principal of a secondary school that the police demand money from them before they will respond to their invitation to combat crime in their schools, Mr. Ogunsakin urged principals to report to the State Command any policeman that demands money for petrol from them as to deal with such officers stressing that there was enough petrol for all divisions in the state.

In his speech, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mr. Akali Sharba said the essence of the workshop was to ensure that there is no crime in Rivers State.

He recalled that since the inception of the administration of the present police commissioner in the state, crimes have been reduced to barest minimum.

He urged everyone to contribute ideas and strategize against the insurgence.

Some of the participants who spoke at the workshop include Uche Obomanu from the CAN, Alhaji Yunusa G. Uman Jubriel and the leader of principals of the secondary schools in Rivers State while commending the State Police Command for organizing the sensitization workshop, noted that it will help in combating crime in Rivers State.

They lamented the way and manner in which some police officers demand money for petrol from them before they will assist in combating crime in their schools. And they appealed to the Commissioner of Police to wipe out bad eggs in the command.   ###
