Asalga: Ido Monarch Sues For Peace

SAGBEThe Amanyanabo designate of Ido, an ancient community in the Asari-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State, HRH Deacon Kuroma S. Sagbe has sent a passionate appeal to the two highly fractionalized Council of Chiefs headed by Chief Sylvanus Prabo and Chief Damiete Dokubo not to do anything that will cause crisis in the community.

The Amanyanabo designate, who made the appeal at a press briefing in Port Harcourt on Monday, regretted unnecessary negotiation for sale of land and illegal sharing of community land. According to him such attitude exhibited by some members of the town will not do the community any good.

HRH Deacon Sagbe recalled that in May 28 and 29, 2014 unknown persons with well-armed security agents and youths from one of the factions were tampering with the community land by digging foundation, “in the process, the youths from other factions made a move to stop them, if not the timely intervention of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in the Asalga, there would have been a serious crisis that might lead to blood shed”.

The paramount head had earlier advised the two factionalized Chieftaincy Councils to patiently wait for the outcome of litigation in Suit No. DHC/9/2014 pending before a Degema High Court which he said is centered on, “who appoints or selects Amanyanabo on the prestigious and ancient Ewelle kingship stool in Ido community: whether the community or compound or particular family or group of supporters to a contender to the stool. These are the things the court is looking at. But since the case is in court I will not comment on the issue”.

He pleaded with Chief Prabo and Chief Dokubo, the purported Amadabos to stop parading themselves as the paramount rulers of Ido community.

“There is no way; the Ido community will have two or more kings at the same time.

That is not possible. Chief Prabo and Chief Dokubo should sink their personal interest and put that of the community first.” HRH Deacon Sagbe said.

The Amanyanabo designate advised the duo (Chief Prabo and Chief Dokubo) to call their supporters and loyalists to order so as not to truncate the existing peace in the community. He said that Ido is well known for its peaceful nature in Kalabari kingdom. ###
