Fresh crisis looms in Kula community in Akuku-Toru Lcal Government Area of Rivers State as Concerned Youths of the community are threatening to cause mayhem if the state government fails to intervene and curtail the heinous, ugly and the wicked activities of Mr. Hope Dan Opusingi and his younger brother, Mr. Kenneth Opusingi in the community.
Speaking at a press briefing in Port Harcourt on Monday, the Concerned Youths of Kula who spoke through their National Coordinator, Comrade Glad Ibigoni alleged that the community is under siege due to ungodly behaviour of Hope Dan Opusingi and Kenneth Dan Opusingi.
The Concerned Youths described them as “confusionists” in the community. According to them, Hope Dan Opusingi is not a chief in Kula community and wondered why he is always parading himself as the Amanyanabo of Kula.
The youths said that Hope Dan Opusingi is not even a member of the royal house, adding that when his father, Chief Dan Opusingi was alive, he has never paraded himself a king, but he (Dan Opusingi) pleaded that he should be allowed to be the regent of the town.
“Let us say clearly that there is an Amanyanabo of Kula and he is HRH King (Dr.) Kroma Amabibi Eleki, SaraXIV. And he is the only recognized King in Kula land”, the Concerned Youths said.
They highlighted some of the atrocities committed by Hope Dan Opusingi and Kenneth Dan Opusingi which include: disruption of SPDC and Chevron activities, terrorizing the creeks and the waterways in the community.
“Their cult and militant boys have invaded all the satellite communities in Kula, namely: Ekulama 1, Ekulama II, Belema, Robert Kiri and other principal settlements causing all kinds of atrocities, including raping, sea piracy, pipelines vandalization and other social vices”, the Concerned Youths said.
The spokesman of the youths, Comrade Ibigoni recalled that in 2007 Kula community was attacked by armed cultists that led to the death of so many prominent indigenes of the area. Comrade Ibigoni alleged that the 2007 crisis was caused by Mr. Kenneth Dan Opusingi, saying that he has started his wicked activities again, “that this time around it will not be easy for both of them”.
The Concerned Youths accused Hope Dan Opusingi and Kenneth Dan Opusingi of using their guards (Mobile police officers) to escort dangerous arms to the area to unleash mayhem on the people of the area. They further recalled that, few weeks ago the Opusingi’s cult and militant boys beaten one Mr. Kio Papa, a former Chairman Community Development Committee (CTC), in Kula while traveling to the Community.
The youths pointed out that, Mr. Hope Dan Opusingi is giving the people the impression that the current happenings in Kula is between PDP and APC.
“This is a wrong impression. Infact Hope Dan Opusingi has told us that he is working for Ezebunwo Nyesom Wike and Tammy Danagogo. That whatever thing he does, they will support him”, the Concerned Youths said, saying “Chief Wike has promised him that if he becomes the governor of Rivers State, he will elevate him to the first class traditional ruler”.
The youths advised Chief Wike and Danagogo to be careful of Hope Dan Opusingi, saying that he (Dan Opusingi) cannot deliver PDP either APC in the area. According to them he is not a chief and beside, “Hope Dan Opusingi has never won an ex-officio position in Kula Youth Organization, saying that he does not know his right from the left, “such a boy cannot be trusted”.
The youths appealed to SPDC not to have any dealing with Hope Dan Opusingi, alleging that he and his younger brother’s activities have now introduced a new form of militancy in the area.
They pleaded to all security agencies namely: the marine police, mobile police, SSS, JTF to intervene speedily to avoid further crisis in Kula.
The youths said that if any crisis occurs in the community, they should not blame anybody, but Hope and Kenneth Dan Opusingi.
They had earlier told newsmen that the Kula community has never moved against President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, but the way and the manner in which, Hope and Kenneth are behaving in the community.
The Concerned Youths frowned at the non-challant attitude of Kenneth Dan Opusingi, saying that after he had surrendered his arms to the Federal Government in the name of amnesty, “now he has gone back to the creeks, causing problems in Kula, whereas other ex-militants from the Kalabari kingdom namely: Egberipapa, Farah, and others have all left the creeks and living a decent life.
All efforts to contact Hope and Kenneth Dan Opusingi proved abortive.###
