N20m Fraud Rocks Rivers Judiciary Workers

 …“It Is A Lie” – JUSUN Chairman

Information reaching our newsdesk had revealed that the Executive Council of the Rivers State Chapter of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) has allegedly collected a total sum of twenty million (N20m) as bribe before proceeding on the indefinite strike.

The State JUSUN is headed by one Comrade Sobeye Sokari George. The rationale behind the strike as we were rightly gathered is to frustrate Hon. Justice Daisy Okocha to act as the Administrative Head of the Rivers State Judiciary.

Hon. Justice Okocha was appointed by the National Judicial Council (NJC) to head the State Judiciary to oversee its activities and also to assign cases to judges for easy administration of justice.

The Rivers wing of JUSUN has been on strike in the past three (3) weeks, thus paralyzing judiciary activities and dispensation of justice in the state.

When our Editor contacted the State Chairman of the JUSUN, through a mobile cell phone, Comrade Sokari George, denied the allegation, saying that it was mere assumption that the allegation does not hold water, saying that members of his executive council are responsible judiciary workers.

The text message he (Sokari George) sent to our Editor reads, “The decision to embark on a strike was taken by the workers in a congress meeting held on the 9/6/2014 at the High Court, Port Harcourt. It was never an exco decision or an imposition, please be informed.

Furthermore, congress is meeting about now (Wednesday 25/6/14) at about 12.02pm to review the situation and again take a decision, the exco has not and cannot compromise its integrity”.

Meanwhile, the JUSUN said it will continue with its strike, “until the crisis surrounding the leadership of the judiciary is resolved”.
