Poisonous Meats Flood In P.H Market

Meat is one of the best sources of proteinous food widely consumed by Nigerians. Because of its nutritional value people buy meat without minding the quality and where it comes from.

Finding facts reports revealed that some of the meats are very contagious and dangerous to health due to poor sanitary measures by the butchers and sellers.

In an interview with the press, a butcher in Port Harcourt told our reporter that most of the unhealthy meat sold in some markets of Rivers State are from the neighbouring states where nobody sees their slaughters and butchers. In Port Harcourt explained that there is a great different between meat slaughtered in Rivers State and the one from neighbouring states due to insufficient use of water by their butchers. He added that all the slaughters in Rivers have public health inspectors that oversee sanitary condition of butchers and meat sold in the state markets at various slaughters.

The Rivers State Butchers and meat sellers are calling on Government to come their aid and stop meats that come from outside states and illegal slaughters that are giving their business bad image and poor market value.
