Rivers NUJ confers award on Dame Amaechi, others … As Journalists End Press Week Celebration

The Rivers State wing of Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, has bestowed award to three illustrious sons and daughters of the State.
The awardees include, Dame Judith Amaechi, wife of the governor of Rivers State, Hon. John Nnamdi Anucha the executive chairman of Omuma local government Area and Mrs. Seinye Lulu Briggs the executive director, Lulu Briggs foundation.
Hon. Anucha bagged best NUJ friendly award for his eminent support to Nigeria Union of Journalists.
Dame Mrs. Amaechi was bestowed excellence award in recognition for her empowerment of women, children and less privileged through her NGO, Empowerment Support Initiative, ESI, while Mrs. Seinye Lulu Briggs bagged award for her role model selfless service to humanity through her Lulu Briggs foundation which she used to care for the less privileged.
The award was presented to them during the gala/award night of the Rivers wing of the Nigeria Union of Journalists press week celebration at the Ministry of Justice secretariat complex, Port Harcourt.
Addressing cross section of journalists at the award night, Mrs. Ibim Seminitari the Rivers State commissioner for information and Communication, commended the NUJ for their relentless effort in maintaining the annual celebration of press week, describing the press week as a week set aside for journalists to have merriment with one another.
The Hon. Commissioner for information reiterated government commitment to partner with the media for the smooth running of governor Amaechi led administration and appealed for their support.
Earlier in his speech Mr. Opaka Dokubo the chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalist Rivers State wing disclosed that journalists in the state have concluded all the activities lined up for the celebration of 2011 press week of the union describing the gala award night of the press week as a day set aside for journalists to wine and dine together in harmony.
Mr. Opaka noted that the award bestowed on the three awardees was in recognition of their support to NUJ in the state and their role model and selfless service to humanity.
In his speech, Hon. John Nnamdi Anucha one of the awardees thanked the NUJ in the state for the honour done him, describing the ward as one of the finest day in his life, giving God the glory adding that the award is a challenge for him to do more.
Hon. Anucha who is also a journalist recalled how he freelanced with Nigeria Tide, Independent Monitor, Telegraph newspaper etc expressing joy for being a journalist.
Similarly in their separate speeches, Dame Mrs. Judith Amaechi who was represented by Mrs. Oturusinya Amacrhee, the wife of the Speaker Rivers State House of Assembly and Mrs. Seinye Lulu Briggs represented by Barr. Mebaka Namie, a director in the Lulu Briggs foundation, thanked the Rivers State NUJ wing for the award bestowed on them.
Meanwhile the awards which were to be given to journalists under different categories, was shifted to December. ###
