Kalabari Times One Year Anniversary and Cultural Revival
Last Saturday, the people of Kalabari ethnic nationality converged at A & G Event Centre along the popular Ernest Ikoli Street, Old GRA, Port Harcourt to witness the one year anniversary of the Kalabari Times Magazine.
The magazine conferred excellence awards on several notable indigenes of Kalabari Kingdom. Those who received the prestigious awards include: Her Majesty Dame Queen Florence Theophilus J. T. Princewill, Brigadier General Williams Romeo Obene Rtd, Chief Enefa-a William Johnbull, Faye Dikio (SAN) and others.
Papers were presented by eminent scholars during the anniversary, which theme was “Kalabari Development Master Plan: The Role of the Emerging Leaders”.
The basic objective of the Kalabari Times Magazine is to ensure continuity of Kalabari cultural heritage. No doubt due to the coming of the white man to African continent several cultures have been extincted. The emergence of the Kalabari Times Magazine has brought cultural revival in the Kalabari kingdom.
We applauded the management of the magazine for the good works it is doing as regards to cultural rejuvenation. Other ethnic groups should borrow leaves from the Kalabari Times Magazine to sustain their culture and customs.
Let us use this medium to call on the government and the relevant authorities to enforce learning of Nigerian languages in schools for the sustainability of African culture especially in this 21st century. ###
