NDDC Abandons Elelenwo Road- Chief Nyekwere

NDDC CHAIRMAN“Until Elelenwo community in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area come together as one, embrace peace and have a paramount ruler endorsed by the entire people in the community will continue to be underdeveloped,” Chief Christian Nyekwere, Eze Osimini 1 of Oropotoma said. The chief also disclosed that other communities in Obio/Akpor are doing well except Elelenwo, attributing that Eze Elelenwo Etor, Godwin Wodi is not from the head clan of Elelenwo that is Rumuodani clan and he was not crowned by Eze Adiele of Rumuomasi, headquarters of Evo kingdom. This situation has therefore led to serious division in the community because some Chiefs do not support his leadership.

Chief Nyekwere decried the situation in the community and maintained that the people are not united which has led to the encroachment of there land by neighboring communities.

He said that Okrika had claimed most of their land through the river, while Oyigbo and Akpajo in Eleme had also claimed and sold quite a number of their land.

‘This is our ancestral land we have been farming on its since I was born, unfortunately nobody can contend it because we are not united”.

Eze osimini, also called on Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to come back and continue Elelenwo road it has abandoned, lamenting that he has been calling NDDC through the phone line they gave to the public, unfortunately it can not go through.

“Furthermore, Elelenwo community has about 42 oil wells yet the community does not benefit from it rather some chiefs collect money from SHELL and share among themselves and allow SHELL to drill the oil while the people suffer. Opportunities are being wasted, RCC is currently constructing the Trans Woji road linking Elelenwo, no indigene of the community has been employed because no recognized leader to fight the course of the people”, Eze Osimini alleged.

Chief Nyekwere, therefore advised Elelenwo people to ensure that the paramount rulership stool come back to Rumuodani clan after the tenure of Eze Wodi, so there will be authoritative voice to move the community forward. ###
