Bayelsa Golf Course Not Priority For Now – Clinton Thompson

A foremost veteran sportswriter, Mr. Clinton Thompson has in clear term told the governor of Bayelsa State, Gov. Seriake Dickson, that his proposed golf course for Bayelsa State is not a priority for now.

The former two times chairman of Rivers SWAN came out with this statement on the heels of Governor Seriake Dickson proposing to build a golf course for Bayelsa State, in a bid to boost the game of golf in the state.

Giving his reasons, why building golf course is not a property for now. Mr. Clinton Thompson said, Bayelsa State for now do not need golf course as the few golfers from the state are all based in Port Harcourt as such, it will be a colossal waste of funds building a golf course for now while the state retired workers are not being paid their gratuity.

It would be recalled that Gov. Seriake Dickson constituted a committee to build a golf course at Yenegoa the capital of Bayelsa State, handing over the task of building a befitting golf course for golfers from the state to King Alfred Diette Spiff and Hon. Mike Youpele Kalango, all are Port Harcourt club based golfers.

Mr. Clinton Thompson made the assertion based on the biting economic reality of retired workers from the state where their gratuity where not paid on time, hence CT as he is fondly called came out with this assertion, telling the governor to look into paying the retired workers their gratuity before embarking on such project, as the golf course will be meaningless to Bayelsans since all the gofers from the state are based in Port Harcourt, and only visit the state only when they are attending to family or social functions occasionally.

Appealing to Governor Seriake Dickson to alleviate the plight of the suffering retired worker of the state by paying their gratuity first, rather than building a golf course that will not be of regular use by the people.

Clinton Thompson is also one time General Manager of Radio Bayelsa. He was also two times vice president of SWAN of Nigeria.

King Alfred Diete Spiff, Mike Youpele Kalango are all members of the Port Harcourt club golf section 1928 and are based in Port Harcourt. So it would be out of place to build golf course for the state as all the golfers of the state are currently based in Port Harcourt for now, Clinton Thompson said.  ###
