Guber Race: Ex-ACN Chieftain Cautions Kalabari Politicians

Kalabari politicians have been advised not to do anything that will thwart the age long dream of emergence of a Kalabari Governor come 2015.

A former chieftain of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), in the Degema Local Government Area of Rivers State, Hon. Harry Tam-Fred gave the advise while speaking with newsmen on Monday at Obuama.

Hon. Tam-Fred who claimed to have brought ACN to Obuama in Delga called on the Kalabari politicians to stand firm in their political aspirations, recalling that severally the political coast had been cleared for the Kalabaris to produce a governor “but because of greed and insincerity the Kalabaris are unable to achieve that”.

His words, “the Kalabari politicians should be very careful in 2015 not to throw away the position God Almighty has already destined for us.”

He stressed the important roles the Kalabari people played during the creation of Rivers State and wondered why they are yet to produce a governor. The ex-ACN Chieftain, however, cited unity, peaceful co-existence, cooperation and trust as pre-requisite for an emergence of a Kalabari governor in 2015.

He further advised that if the governorship slot is coming to the Kalabari axis, politicians should allow the smaller communities to produce it, “so that the three (3) bigger towns of Bakana, Abonnema and Buguma will play fatherly roles”.

Hon. Tam Fred regretted that since the creation of Rivers State in 1967, the Kalabari kingdom has not benefited much in terms of development and projects execution.

The former ACN Chieftain also pleaded with the Kalabari politicians to avoid anything that will destroy lives and properties in the forthcoming general election.

“There is no point killing ourselves because of politics. Let us avoid doing anything that will shed innocent blood. Election will come and go, but the Kalabari kingdom remains”, Hon. Tam Fred advised.###
