A socio-cultural organization, the Gboneewa Eedee Tai has celebrated with some widows in the area.
In an address presented at the event at the weekend at Nowa Town Hall, Tai Local Government, the President of the body, Mrs. Rita Kigbara said the aim of the organization is to alleviate poverty especially as it affect the widows in the area.
Mrs. Kigbara stated that the level of poverty among widows is on the increase as most of them did not have any bread winner in their houses since they have lost their husbands.
The President further explained that though the Gboneewa Eedee Tai is a very young organization that was establish in December 2013, they will also include the girl child education in its programme of activities which will reduce social vices in the various communities in the LGA.
The president said the issue of campaign for girl child education is very key because according to her “If you educate a girl child you educate a nation.”
She lamented the disadvantages related to uneducated girl child such like prostitution which may lead to HIV/AIDs, ignorance, early pregnancy which is one of the MDGs goals.
Earlier, the chairman of the event, Hon. Mathew Nenbari Dike said the Gboneewa Eedee are women who are not biologically from Tai but by marriage are from Tai that come together to effect a change in their husband’s communities through hardwork and commitment.
He said the woman are likeminds who came together to bring light to the community of Tai and called on the people of Tai and those in authorities to support them.###
