The Grassroot Journalists in Rivers State, Nigeria, has honoured Dr. Godspower Amadi, Head of Agric Department in the Niger Delta Development Commission NDDC. In his address the president of Grassroot Journalists of Rivers State, Mr. Paschal Agbadah, stated that the reason for the award on Dr. Amadi was on his innovative training and empowerment of youths in agriculture, mentoring them in fishery, poultry, hatching and aquaculture.
The uniqueness in Dr. Amadi’s gesture was the initiation of financial empowerment to the youths as take off grants after the skills acquisition, to commence their specific projects in different aspects of agriculture.
Mr. Agbadah, however lauded Mr. Amadi’s passion for food production and agricultural development and self commitment towards assisting youths to create their own jobs and empower themselves in the sector; as another reason that motivated the body to reward a man who has acquired so much academic degrees to enhance himself in the business of agriculture.
The president of Grassroot Journalists was of the view that the award of “The Exponent of Food Sufficiency and Youth Development” in the Niger Delta and the decision of Mr. Godspower not delight himself in mundane things or glamorize amidst the ravages of uiempoyment, will spur him to do more.
Shortly after receiving the award, Dr. Godspower, said he was pleased and overwhelmed by the award, saying that it would spur him to do more for the youths in the State and beyond.
Amadi explained that his motivation for the programme was to ensure that youths and even woman benefit from it, looking at the high level of unemployment in the country.
He described the high point of his initiative programme as one that has helped the empowered to empower others, thereby creating employment in the region.
Mr. Godspower called on well meaning Nigerians to follow suit and help in fighting the menace of unemployment in the country, and eradicate poverty among the youths. ###
