Rivers MWAN President Assures Partnership With Government To End Cancer

The newly elected President of the Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria, Rivers State branch, Dr. Obelebra Adebiyi said she would partner with the Rivers State Government to fight against cancer to a stand still.

Dr. Adebiyi gave the assurance while in a chat with journalists during the annual dinner and investiture ceremony of the Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria, Rivers State Branch in Port Harcourt.

Dr. Adebiyi who expressed her profound gratitude to God and the entire members of the association for given her the opportunity to serve, further disclosed that her motive of vying for the position was to assist humanity and create awareness on health for women through organizing advocacy programmes to prevent cancer and other related diseases as it was stated that prevention is better than cure, assuring that she will partner with government, provide enough vaccines for the prevention of cancer.

She, however, advised women to always go for a medical check up in the nearest health centres and hospitals built by the State Government which would go a long way to prevent cancer disease easily.

Similarly, in a chat with journalists at the ceremony, Dr. I. F. Korubo, the Rivers State chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association while congratulating Dr. Obelebra Adebiyi for her elevation as the president of the MWAN in Rivers State described her election as free and fair and advised Nigerian politicians to always emulate the association to conduct free and fair election in the country especially the forthcoming 2015 election which people perceived would be violent.

Dr. Korubo advised members of the association to support the newly elected president as to succeed in achieving her targets of preventing cancer and other diseases.

He further advised Dr. Adebiyi to carry everyone along in the scheme of things. In his good will message, Dr. Dawari I. George MHR, representing Akulga/Asalga Constituency in the Federal House of Representatives while congratulating, Dr. Adebiyi for her elevation as the president of the MWAN Rivers branch noted that her elevation as a president was a call to duty to her selfless contributions to the welfare of humanity and advancement of the Medical Women Association of Nigeria as well as the development of the medical profession in general and prayed that God would grant her greater wisdom to pilot the affairs of the association successfully. ###
