The Eze Oha Evo III of Evo Kingdom Nyerisi Eli Woji Eze Woji XII Chairman Supreme Council of Ikwerre Government Recognized Traditional Rulers Council, HM KING Leslie N Eke JP Ph’D Eze Gbakagbaka, has called on public spirited individuals across the globe not to relent in their efforts, but to push harder in a bid to reaching out to more vulnerable people.
Eze Eke said this at the 2024 United Nations Association of Nigeria (UNAN) International Charity Day, on September 5, when he hosted the President, Dr Joan Agha with other women at his palace in Woji Community, Obio /Akpor Local Government Area.
He said the act of charity or alms given can not be over stretched due to its importance in the society.
According to the Eze, there are those vulnerable people that depend squarely on charity and could be exposed to danger, if such attention was denied them.
The in coming President of Association of Christian Traditional Rulers Council of Nigeria (ACTRCN), recalled how some men of old hosted angels ond unknowingly due to the spirit of alms giving in them.
” The Bible enjoins us to even feed our enemies, if they are hungry. So the act of charity should be domesticated in our hearts and we should not be sentimental about it”, he said.
The Ikwerre Monarch, also appealed to the women to always remember Governor Sir Siminalayi Joseph Fubara GSSRS in their prayers so that the peace path he has chosen will be sustained.
Earlier in her speech, they were gathered to be reminded of the importance of charity and its transformative powers in breaking the circles of poverty.
She listed inequality and injustice as such other things that the act of charity could subdue.
“In Nigeria, we are blessed with a rich culture of philanthropy and volunteerism. From the market woman who shares food with a neighbour in need to the businessman who donates to a local orphanage, we see examples of charity every day”, she said.
She also praised their host on the assistance given to square charity for 50 women on the said event and prayed God to always project him for the best opportunities.
Also speaking, the Founder and President of Sco-Women Accountability Initiatives, Amb (Mrs) Stella Ozigbo, who described the Eze Gbakagbaka as charity personified, said his likes are need in the field in order to crusade the act of alm giving to the hinter lands.
Meanwhile, the wife of the Eze, Queen Tombari Leslie Eke, has called on all not to wait until the amass much wealth before they could reach out to some around them and added that little act to someone in need was key, because ‘God loves a cheerful giver’.***
