By Victor Effiong

Rivers State House of Assembly has resolved to send a letter of commendation in recognition of the achievements of three Rivers daughters of the State.

They are Rena Wakama, Pallas Akpana, and Ngozi Mary Kekwaaru, who recently distinguished themselves and brought glory to the state in their various areas of endeavours.

This was sequel to a motion presented on the floor of the house by the Deputy Leader and lawmaker representing Okrika Constituency, Linda Somiari Stewart, who prayed the House to commend the trio for their recent achievements.

Rena Wakama, from Okrika LGA, is the Coach of the D’Tigress Basketball Team which recently won the 2023 Afro Basketball Tournament.

Pallas Akpana is a member of the victorious National Female Basketball Team (D’Tigress) from Degema LGA, while Ngozi Mary Kekwaaru is from Rundele, Emohua LGA, is a good spirited Nigerian and staff of Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos State, Nigeria who recently, while on duty, returned misplaced $70,000 to a customer who had left his suitcase behind unknowingly in one of the hotel’s suites.

During debate on the motion, Leader of the house, Edison Ehie, urged the State Government to accord the trio with state honours.

Speaker of the House, Martin Amaewhule, while stating his submission on the motion, donated his August salary to Ngozi Mary Kekwaaru in a move to encourage good conduct, and urged the Clark of the house to write a commendation letter on behalf of the State Assembly and send to the trio.

In another development, the Rivers State Administration of Estate (Small Estate Payments Exemption) Bill, 2023 has passed its first reading on the floor of the House.

Presenting the bill, Leader of the House, Edison Ehie, said it is a bill to provide for the grant of certificate to small estate, exempt such from payment of estate duty, and the grant of full letters of administration and other connected matters.

When passed, the bill will be referred to as Administration of Estate (Small Estate Payments Exemption) Law, 2023.

Our correspondent reports that the House adjourned sitting to Friday, August 18th, 2023.
