The Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Seaport, has advised pregnant women to engage in active sex with their spouses to enhance smooth delivery and father-and-child bonding.
President of the Club, Victoria Ockiya, gave the advice recently when she led members of the Club, in partnership with four other different Rotary Clubs to donate and distribute sixty “Delivery Kits” to pregnant women at the Model Primary Health Center, Okija Street, in Mgbundukwu Community, Port Harcourt, Rivers Stat, during a health sensitization programme.
She said the gesture was part of the club’s project under the Rotary International area of focus of Mother and Child Health, to help improve the mental health and wellbeing of the mother and unborn child, and also to give them hope for a better healthy life.
According to her, indulging in sex during pregnancy “also has capacity to reduce cases of maternal mortality”.
Ockiya noted that the kits, also known as “Mama Packs”, were jointly paid for by six different clubs, and were freely distributed to sixty less privileged pregnant mothers who could hardly afford the essential delivery items and are close to their delivery date.
Meanwhile, some of the pregnant women, who benefitted from the gesture, said the gifts have relieved them of mental stress they were experiencing as a result of not being able to afford some of the delivery items they needed.
While describing Rotary as a “Life saver”, the expectant mothers said “the timing for was right”.
Our correspondent reports that other clubs in the joint project include Rotary Club of Port Harcourt South, Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Esara City, Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Grrden City, and Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Passport.
