The Rivers State Police Command says it has arrested one Isaac Okoma, aged 39, from Alebiri Town, Ekeremo Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, residing at Mass Central Hotel, UPE Sandfilled, Borikiri, Port Harcourt, who alledgedly murdered one Josephine Ibiju, a resident of Baptist Waterfront.
The State Police Commissioner, CP Emeka Nwonyi, disclosed this in a press briefing at Police Headquarters, Moscow Road, Port Harcourt, the Rivers State Capital.
CP Nwonye said preliminary investigation has commenced, and the case will soon be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Port Harcourt.
Nwonyi further disclosed that following credible information, operatives of Octopus Strike Force raided a notorious criminal hideout in Rumuokwuota, Obuo/Akpor LGA on Friday, July 28, 2023.
He explained that the hoodlums escaped through a carnal, leaving behind a 14mm live ammunition, 50 suspected weeds, 42 sachets of “loud”, 6 sachets of Chelsea Dry Gin, 20 sachets of Eagle,10 Tombo Bitters (sachet drink), Cigarettes and 5 mobile phones, all of which where recovered.
In the same vein, the State Police boss also confirmed the surrendering of a Greenland cult leader, in Ogbologbolo Community in Ahoada West, Ikem ThankGod, aka 2Man to the Police.
He said the gang leader surrendered following intense raid of criminal camps in the area by the Police.
CP Nwonyi said the gang leader submitted one AK 47 riffle, 2 SMG riffles and AK 47 live ammunitions.
He also revealed that operatives of Anti-cultism Unit on July 30, 2023, while on stop-and-search along Aluu-Omagwa Road in Ikwerre LGA, sighted a Volvo car, whose occupants, upon sighting the Police, ran away.
Nwonyi said one AK 47 riffle, 3 magazines,12 rounds of 6mm ammunition, and one pump action were recovered from the car which was abandoned by the hoodlums.
He further said upon compliant by one Wale Abi, one Precious Frank was arrested on Tuesday August 1, 2023.
He said the suspect specializes in generating fake alerts, defrauding POS and shop owners at Borikiri area.
He said the suspect generated fake alert to the tune of N110,000 for the complainant, adding that he has given information that will lead to the arrest of other members of the gang.
The Rivers Police boss explained that operatives of the Command on August 3rd, 2023 at Aba Road, Port Harcourt, intercepted one Honda Crystol with two occupants, Success and Blessing.
“Upon interrogation we discovered that the hoodlums snatched the vehicle from Lawson Avenue in Port Harcourt”, he said.
The CP further disclosed that operatives of Hunter Unit of the Command, at GRA, Port Harcourt, along Casablanca, engaged three suspected kidnappers in a gun battle. They had blocked a Toyota Corolla to rub the occupants.
He said the hoodlums fled and abandoned the victims, Samuel Okoronkwo and Okorie Arinze and the car.
