Poor Sanitation: Mile 3 Market Is Smelling…Human Faeces Everywhere

The popular Mile 3 market in the Port Harcourt City Local Government Area o Rivers State is now stinking as a result of poor sanitary habit among the traders.
Lack of proper refuse disposal system within the market has compelled traders to dump refuse indiscriminately.
Some traders had blatantly refused to use the toilet facilities in the market, but prefer defecating in their shops and stalls and dispose them anytime it rains.
On Tuesday during the torrential rainfall human faeces were scattered all over the market. Cans containing human urine and faeces were floating here and there in the market.
Moreso, because of the non-availability of good drainage system, the market was flooded. Speaking to our correspondent, a male trader who simply identified himself as Elder Matthew Njoku blamed the female traders on polluting the market. According to him, they (women) are fond of deafecating in the containers and keep them in their shops for days and sometimes months.
“There is a particular woman very close to my shop. Every container in her shop contains urine I have warned her severally and she refused. She has taken it as an habit of urinating in containers and keeping them in her shop”, Elder Njoku revealed.
Elder Njoku called on management of the market authorities to do something about the sanitary situation to curb the menace.  ###
