Budget Padding And Inconclusive Elections

nigeria_map_mOf recent two new terminologies appeared in the lexicon of Nigerian politics. Many, even the educated ones have not come across these two words: Budget Padding and Inconclusive Elections until recently, when some politicians who did not know how democracy came about in Nigeria which today they are enjoying.

Nigeria is a land full of opportunities. The country has best brains and skilled manpower that can make it to be relevant and well recognized among the comity of states.

Despite the resources both human and material Nigeria can boost of, its citizens are living in abject poverty.

Not that the country lacks managerial skills to manage and administer its resources, but corruption has found its ways to governance.

This is a nation where majority of its citizens cannot afford three (3) square meal, but corrupted politicians are living big, driving the best cars and residing in mansions.

At this critical moment of Nigerian history, few lawmakers in the Federal House of Representatives  tampered with the 2016 budget, by inserting figures and inflating some amount tied to projects.

Hon. Yakubu Dogara, the Speaker of the House and other principal officers were accused of committing the heinous act, which is capable of destroying the nation’s economy.

Budget padding is a crime against the state. Federal government or the relevant authorities should not treat this wicked act with kid’s gloves. This is not All Progressives Congress, APC matter or the National Assembly’s headache but it is an issue that concerns all Nigerians.

Nigeria is full of funny politicians, if not how can persons with correct and right senses will “fraudulently” tamper the Budget of a nation of over one hundred million people. This is a big atrocity that cannot be easily swept under the carpet. Is it the type of change APC is preaching?  ###
