Rivers: Bloodbath In Delga …3 Persons Killed …10 Wounded

musa kimoAs the Rivers State government making frantic efforts to curb the increasing rate of killings in the state, the situation seems to be unbated considering the way and manner in which things are going on daily basis.

At the weekend fear griped the residents of Bakana community in the Degema local government area of Rivers State as dreaded gunmen stormed the coastal community and caused havoc.

Information had it that the gunmen who are suspected members of Iceland cult group stormed the ancient Bakana town through the creeks and waterways to unleash mayhem on their perceived enemies.

The Icelanders were in the community searching for their opponents and by the time they through with their heinous combing of the town, two young men were brutally murdered and one was missing while no fewer than ten (10) persons were wounded.

The reason for the weekend attack on the ancient Kalabari community was still sketchy at time of filing this report, but impeccable sources revealed that the cult group went into the town on a revenge mission.

However, The Newswriter newspaper gathered that problem started, when members of Icelanders went to one of mortuary to move the corpse of their prominent member simply identified as Bayelsa to Bakana town for interment, but while in the mortuary they were attacked by another cult group known as the Clansmen. As a result of the attack, Bayelsa’s corpse was taken to Port Harcourt cemetery for interment. Thereafter the Icelanders went to the Bakana town to revenge, attack and brutalize members of the Clansmen cult group.

Speaking with newsmen at his palace on Monday, the Amanyanabo of Bakana Community, HRH O.O Odum VIII, condemned the attack and described it as “unfortunate incident”.

The Bakana monarch regretted the insecurity situation in his domain and attributed it to absence of security personnel in the area.

It would be recalled that few weeks ago, gunmen shot the chairman of the Kalabari chapter of the Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, Prince Sobrasua Odum but he escaped. While the bullet hit and killed his younger cousin. In that same operation no fewer than four (4) persons were wounded, including Prince Odum’s driver.

Degema local government Area, Delga has been a flash point in criminal activities. Old Bakana, Tombia, Ke and Bukuma communities are known for their atrocities as far as crime is concerned.

These communities according to information reaching our crime desk, aboding criminal elements to terrorize the different parts of the state, including the creeks and the waterways.

Of recent source hinted this weekly that, there are moves for some notorious criminals and gangsters to build their camp in Old Bakana to perpetuate sea pirates and illegal bunkering.

Recently a young man was strangulated to death in a creek near old Bakana.

Elder Joseph Joe, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in DELGA called on the Federal Government to provide security in the area to curb the increasing rate of kidnapping, stealing, cultism in the LGA. ###
