Power Supply And Business Development In Nigeria

PHCN-PolesFor any country to develop economically and advance technologically, effective power supply is needed. In Nigeria so many businesses have been collapsed and folded as a result of absence of frequent power supply.

To boost the economic life of the country every sector of the economic needs power, even the smallest business outfits, such as barber saloon.

Most businesses use power to generate high productivity. Thus engines and machines in industries are being powered by electricity to function.

It is very difficult to do business in Nigeria today because of constant power outage. Electricity is one of the essential factors encouraging industrial growth in any part of the world.

It is sad that after fifty-six (56) years of political independence, Nigerians cannot enjoy the uninterrupted power supply. The non availability of power, no doubt has crippled every area of the nation’s economy. Besides this foreign investors have refused to come to Nigeria and invest.

I applaud the federal government and the Ministry of Power of providing electricity in most of the communities in country. However, government’s efforts of doing that has constantly been frustrating by electricity cables vandals. Apart from the activities of the cables thieves, most of the electricity consumers refuse to pay their bills. This unequivocally negatively affect government and also the electricity distributing company from transmitting effective power.

Electricity cables and transformation vandals are economic saboteurs and enemies of the nation. Hence government should treat them as common criminals. For the nation to move forward the appropriate authorities should come out with new strategies on how to maintain twenty-four (24) hours unblinking power supply. The Federal Ministry of Power should also procure new and modern electrical equipment to replace the obsolete ones. ###
