There was a confusion at Opobo, the headquarters of the Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area of Rivers State as the youths of the area manhandled the immediate past Caretaker Committee Chairman of the LGA, Hon. Eli LeggJack.
Our correspondent reports that problems started on Tuesday at the venue of the inauguration of the new CTC members of the LGA. According to the information as soon as the former CTC boss, Legg-Jack stepped into the venue of the swearing in some youths, elders and party members booed him and rained curses on him for under developing the council while he was in office as CTC chairman.
The worst part of it, when the Master of Ceremony (MC) of the event invited, Hon. Legg Jack to the high table before the new CTC chairman, Hon. Adonye Diri, the youths and party faithful raised their voices and caused commotion and vowed not to allow Hon. Legg Jack to sit on the high table.
Shortly after that, there was protest that, the erstwhile Opobo/Nkoro LGA boss should move out of the venue of the event.
It took hours for the new CTC chairman, Hon. Diri and some security details to put the situation in control. Mobile police officers release canisters to scare the angry youths from harming the ex-council boss.
The youths accused Hon. Legg-Jack of impoverishing the entire LGA while in office. According to them, during his tenure, he did not make any political appointment and at the same time, no project was executed. The youths alleged that the LGA experience its darkest hour since its creation. They described Legg-Jack as a wicked man.
Information had it that after the swearing –in ceremony as the dignitaries were moving out of the venue, in the company of Hon. Diri, the aggrieved PDP members further attack Hon. Legg-Jack and threatened to strip him naked if not the timely intervention of some important personalities in the area.
All efforts to contact Hon. Legg-Jack to hear from him proved abortive as his mobile cell phone was switched off. ###
