Kalabari IYC Makes Case For Pipelines Vandals

Worried by the increasing rate of oil pipelines vandalization within the Kalabari axis of Rivers State, the Kalabari chapter of the Ijaw Youth Council, IYC has called on the Rivers State government under the leadership of Chief Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom to offer amnesty and state pardon to pipelines vandals.

Speaking through its clan chairman, Prince Sobrasua Odum, on Tuesday decried the high level of crime in the creeks, adding that the vandals have caused so much atrocities in the nation’s economy system.

The Kalabari IYC boss expressed hope that if the state government invites the vandals and demand them to surrender their guns and in turn offer them amnesty, it would do the state and nation much good.

Prince Odum who advised the vandals to have a rethink, saying that their activities have caused ecological problems in the Kalabari creeks and beyond.

“Fishes are no longer in the river. Our aged parents are no longer seeing periwinkles to pick in the mangroves, as a result of these the economy is going down day by day” Prince Odum lamented.

The Bakana Prince maintained that government should make it as a matter of urgency to ensure that it dialogues with the vandals to save the Kalabari waterways.

Prince Odum pleaded with the pipelines destroyers to surrender their guns and ammunition to the state government, and jettison the idea of vandalization. According of him any attempt to continue in their activities of  destruction of oil facilities in the area will not go down well with the future of the Kalabari kingdom.

“The Kalabari kingdom and its resources belong to us all if we destroy them, our children will suffer in the future. So let us do everything possible to protect what belongs to us” Prince Odum concluded.  ###
