In the political development of Nigeria, there was a period when military officers were at the helms of affairs in government. And in the process of time the military administration fades away like the morning star. Now military government has become aberration not only in Nigeria, but the world over. In the past seventeen (17) years Nigerians are enjoying uninterrupted democracy. Since then different kinds of unbelievable and ugly events and activities surface in the nation’s body polity from time to time.
The stupid and nonsense activities of Boko Haram are gradually going down, while the fierce agitation of the Biafra Republic is reducing day by day. There is time for everything.
In Rivers State, some years back communal crises were order of the day. No community was at rest. Buguma was deserted, Tombia and Ke communities were set ablaze, Okuru-ama and Abuloma were flash points of cultism, Ogbakiri was the home of lions, Abua was the seat of tigers amongst others.
Time changes and nothing is permanent. Of recent a radical group known as ‘Fulani herdsmen” has emerged in the country. Their mission is to kill, steal and rape.
They are more dangerous than Boko Haram. Why? The reason is simply to answer, the Fulani herdsmen have penetrated into the nooks and crannies of the Nigerian society. From the North, they migrated to the East, where they are grazing the cattles.
They are armed with dangerous weapons such as AK 47 riffles, dynamite (explosives). The Fulani herdsmen have caused so much confusion in the country. They are wicked.
Barely three (3) weeks ago the bloody cattle rearers unleashed mayhem on the people of a community in Enugu State, killing no fewer than forty (40) persons.
While the government is yet to combat and find lasting solution to the menace of the Fulani herdsman another militant group from the Niger Delta region known as the Niger Delta Avengers, NDA has emerged.
Though this militant group is new, but it has caused untold hardship in the region. Are their recent activities negatively affecting the nation’s economy?
Whatever the situation, the federal government should live up to its responsibility to ensure that peace reigns in the country. The various factors that provide conducive environment for militancy to flourish should be addressed so that the country will be at peace once and for all. ###
