Rivers: PDP Chiefs Shun Ward LGA Congresses

Our political correspondent who monitored the last Saturday’s Peoples Democratic Party, PDP ward congresses across the various wards in Rivers State reported that most of the party chiefs, including commissioners, political aides, Special Advisers amongst others were not in their various wards and LGAs to attend the congress.

The reasons for their absence from the ward congress was not clear, but highly respected sources informed this weekly that most of the party chiefs were angry, because the party leadership under Felix Obuah did not permit them to fix the names of their blood brothers and sisters as executive members of the PDP at the ward level.

In Ogoni, Kalabari and some riverine LGAs, according to our reporter, some political aides to the Governor instructed their supporters and loyalists not to participate in the ward congress.

A special Adviser had threatened to deal with the PDP chairman of his ward and vowed that he will not recognize the newly constituted ward executives.

According to a social pundit, Comrade Eze Ezekiel who spoke to our correspondent, described the party chiefs, commissioners, SAs, House of Assembly members who shunned the ward congress as “greedy politicians and funny individuals,” whose target is to destroy Wike’s administration.

He stressed the importance of ward congresses in the development of a party system. Comrade Ezekiel called on the party leadership to impose discipline on the party chieftains who refused to attend the ward congress.

He further advised Governor Nyesom Wike to drop in his cabinet those commissioners and SAs who failed to attend the last Saturday’s ward congresses in their various wards. ###
