Ahoada-East: Lawmaker Condemns Killings

musa kimoMember representing Ahoada East Constituency in the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon Edison Ehie has urged cultists in the state to surrender their arms and stop the senseless killings currently going on the area.
Hon Ehie warned that those who rejected the path of peace and repentance would face the full wrath of the law, stressing that the authorities would not fold their arms and allow a few individuals to disrupt the peace.
The lawmaker made the appeal in Port Harcourt following the attacks by gunmen suspected to be cultists of Ula-Upata and Edoha communities, which claimed some lives.
It would be recalled that the gunmen reportedly beheaded about five persons and made away with their heads during the attacks.
The lawmaker, who strongly condemned the killings, noted that it was barbaric and unacceptable, and urged security operatives to redouble their efforts to protect lives and properties in the area.
Ehie declared: “I condemn in the strongest terms the killing of innocent persons and the wanton destruction of properties by armed youths. The people from the affected communities have done nothing wrong to deserve such attack.
“We are urging our people to be vigilant and report suspects to security operatives. We shall not under any sense condone acts of cultism and militancy. Our people are peaceful and law-abiding.
“We urge our youths to lay down their arms, and embrace peace, because we won’t tolerate senseless killings.”
Ehie appealed to security operatives to unravel those behind the attacks and bring them to justice.
Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Police, Musa Kimo has said that the police were on the trail of the perpetrators, just as he said that only four persons lost their lives during the attacks.
