Worried by the lingering leadership crisis rocking the Rivers State chapter of the National Association of Nigerian Traditional Medicine Practitioners, NANTMP, members of the association have accused the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Theophilus Odagme of his inability to effectively handle and settle the crisis once and for all.
The members frowned at the commissioner’s non-challant attitude towards the protracted crisis in the state National Association of Nigerian Traditional Medicine Practitioners. They alleged that Dr. Odagme is trying to take side in the matter, which according to the members it will not augur well with the commissioner and his ministry.
For sometime the NANTMP is entangled with leadership crisis and two factional now exist in the association led by different leaders. At different fora the commissioner has threatened to disband the association, which according to the members is beyond his power and outside his duties.
A member of the association simply identified as Dr. Green Joseph warned the commissioner not to do anything that will disturb him and his ministry and also to create division among the members of NAMTMP in Rivers State.
“No matter the crisis the commissioner has no right to proscribe the association, NANTMP is a national association, not local one. Dr. Odagme should not try what he cannot do,” Dr. Joseph said.
Dr. Joseph informed this weekly that barely two (2) months ago a committee headed by one Dr. Nimi Hart was constituted to look into the crisis rocking the association, but until now nothing has been done.
He maintained that if Dr. Hart’s committee is not functioning, the commissioner should dissolve it and appoint new one so that the crisis will be resolved amicably.
According to Dr. Joseph the members of the association are worry over the failure of the commissioner to resolve the matter. Dr. Joseph observed that the commissioner is nursing hidden agenda to destabilize the association, if not why all these delay. The two contenders had submitted all their relevant documents and papers to the Dr. Hart led committee, but nothing is forthcoming.
The delay to dispense justice and resolve the crisis, Dr. Joseph insists is fueling crisis in the association which will in turn affect the traditional health sector in the state.
Dr. Joseph wondered if the commissioner cannot resolve a crisis affecting a small union, “how can he handle bigger problems that will come to his ministry? ###
