Wike Donates 1bn To RSUST

didiaThe governor of Rivers State, Barr. Nyesom Wike has tasked the Vice chancellor of the Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST), Prof. Blessing Didia to proscribe all cult associations on campus and expel any student found to be member of any cult group.
He stated that cult wars are now mobilized from campuses and the university must do every thing possible to wipe it out. The governor was speaking at the convocation ceremony of the school.
Governor Wike used the occasion to donate N1b for projects especially the medical school, the building of the Alumini Association and the reconstruction of the faculty of management science, while promising to uphold the rights of workers if they are not politically motivated.
He urged the university management to be the best as they have everything to make them the best university noting that they should use their strengths and skills to bring the real change they desire to bear promising that government will create an enabling environment for them to strive and they should reduce over depending in the government.
Earlier, the Pro Chancellor of the University and the chairman of the 12th Governing Council, Hon. Justice Iche Ndu (Rtd) stated that their dream is to establish a world class and uncommon university that will be structurally and philosophically oriented to solve the practical and peculiar challenges of the region.
Also speaking, the Vice Chancellor of RSUST, Prof. Blessing Didia stated that he has revitalized the workforce where there was tension, anxiety, dissatisfaction and feelings of alienation with low productivity, as a section of the academic staff have been on strike for about three years.
Prof. Didia explained that within his short stay in office 12 programmes had full accreditated while thanking the governor for the approval of N150 million naira for the accreditation programme.
The Vice Chancellor listed some of the challenges of the institution which includ: litigation, College of Medical sciences, the plights of staff in the primary and secondary schools in the university and funding.
He appealed to government and corporate organizations to immortalize their names in the institution by voluntarily provide for the following: faculty building, sports complex, lecture halls, theatres, student hostels and alternative power source.
Highlights of the event were the ground breaking ceremony of the medical school, Alumini Association and commissioning of some projects as the law department was named after Dr. Nabo Graham Douglas (SAN) and Awards for the best graduating students. ###
