Worried by the unprecedented killings and destruction of properties estimated at the millions of naira allegedly perpetuated by the former Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi assisted by armed federal troop during the re-run elections in Rivers State, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has instituted a legal action against the ex-governor Amaechi before a High Court sitting in Port Harcourt.
Also joined in the said suit are: the Chief of Defence Staff, General Abayomi Olonishakin and the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai.
The PDP in its submission had asked the court to commit them into prison for the careless and the nonsense roles they played during the March 19, re-run polls in the state.
The party further demanded that the Commander of 2nd Army Brigade, Port Harcourt, Brigadier General Stephenson Dabanji, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC and the Rivers State Resident Electoral Commission, Elder Aniedi Ikoiwak be jailed.
It would be recalled that Justice George Omereji of Port Harcourt High Court had on March 16, 2016 granted an interim injunction restraining the Federating Government from deploying soldiers during the re-run election following a court process by PDP.
Thus there was fragrant disobedience to this court order and soldiers were massively deployed and seen all over the state, monitoring the conduct of the re-run polls.
The Presiding Judge, Hon. Justice Omereji has adjourned the case to April 14, 2016 for further hearing.
During the re-run polls soldiers terrorized the state and unleashed mayhem on the electorate, especially the perceived enemies of the All Progressives congress, APC. ###
