RSG To Liase With Companies On Employment

Rivers State Government has urged companies operating in the State to adhere to Government policy on Employment.
Commissioner for Employment Generation and Economic Empowerment, Chief Ephraim Nwuzi made the plea in a meeting with companies Executives in Port Harcourt.
Chief Nwuzi expressed the need for companies operating in the State to strictly adhere to the Federal Government Law on Employment from catchment areas.
He pointed out that Government alone cannot provide employment for all citizens, added that partnering with the companies will stimulate innovations that will boost employment, curb militancy and youth restiveness.
The Commissioner stated that though the economic situation is bad, there is the need to engage the youths in their Employment and Empowerment Programmes.
He disclosed that Government will soon engage Liaison Officers to interface with companies, with a view to ensure strict adherence to the Employment Law.
He explained that Liaison officers will work closely with companies to ensure transparency and enable free flow of information.
The Commissioner noted that this initiative will boost employment and will also bridge information gap between Government and the companies.
Speaking on behalf of the companies, Mr. Ilori Joseph, Human Resources Manager, dredging International Service (Nigeria) Limited appreciated the initiatives from the Government and promised to work with the Ministry.
He pledged the companies readiness to cooperate with Government to ensure that Rivers State gets her own quota in terms of employment and empowerment.
Also appealed, that Government look into some of their challenges like multiple taxation.
In attendance were, Greenville Oil and Gas Co. Limited, Bua Group, Depthwize, Midis, Energy, Weatherford, Dredging Int’I service Nigeria Limited.
Others include, Japaul Oil and Maritime Service, Aveon Offshore Limited, GAC Slipping, Alcom, MCC Topline Nigeria Limited, Port Harcourt Mall.
