A former Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice under former governor, Rotimi Amaechi, and a candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Port Harcourt Constituency 1 has raised alarm that the list of ad hoc personnel compiled by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) have been doctored to rig the March 19 election in favour of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates.
Ken Chikere made the allegation during an interactive programme tagged ‘Forum’ organized by the Federated Correspondents’ Chapel of the Rivers Chapter of the Nigerian Union of journalists, NUJ, in Port Harcourt on Monday.
He further alleged that the list earlier submitted by the state Director of National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, had been redeployed and the new Director after writing INEC to withdraw the first list, claiming he was posted to Rivers because of the rerun election.
The PDP candidate said he has no reason to worry because as a former lawmaker in the 7th national assembly he delivered visible dividends of democracy to his constituents and has been campaigning vigorously.
He however, went spiritual when he said “Join me to rain a curse on INEC if it dares not conduct a free and fair election, praying that, Holy Ghost fire should consume them”.
Asked what his reaction is to the lingering violence and criminalities in the state he said “As lawyer and politician, I have never armed any youth for the purpose of election. I tell youths that if anybody buys guns or firearms for you ask him if his children will lead the battle because most of the children of politicians are in Europe and overseas. I blame the youths who make themselves available as tools to be used by selfish politicians.”
Although the former Attorney-General and Commissioner of Justice did not disclose why he parted ways with his former boss, Amaechi, he however descended heavily on him.
“We must condemn what former Governor Amaechi is doing. I feel ashamed of Amaechi as former Attorney-General and one of his support base. His disposition is most unbecoming as a Speaker for eight years and governor for eight years.”
He said Amaechi has been very ungrateful to those who worked hard to make him governor.” Amaechi did not know what it took to bring him from Ghana and make him governor. He will never know until he dies. First, he should be grateful to God, then to Nyesom Wike.”
