Rivers Women Commissioner Advocates For Gender Equity

The Commissioner of Women Affairs, Rivers State, Hon. Mrs. Ukel Oyaghiri has joined other Rivers Women to celebrates this years international women’s Day with the theme 50-50 planet for 2030, Step It Up For Gender Equality.
The Commissioner appealed to the men fold as well as parents to always give equal treatment to the girl child as they do treat the boy child in terms of education.
She thanked the governor of the state for being gender friendly, commending him for appointing women into his cabinet, most especially making a woman his deputy governor.
Speaking further, she advised the womenfolk to stand for their rights while carrying out their natural duties as mothers and family managers.
Speaking also at the occasion, the secretary to the state government, Chief Kenneth Kobani who represented the governor, encouraged the womenfold to speak for themselves, saying “this government is your government, hence the governor has appointed women into his cabinet largely.
He noted that by 2030 the gap between man and women equality would be bridged. Assuring them that the Wike led government will always empower and support the womenfold.
He urged them to vote for the candidates that will help the governor to work for them.
In her speech, the wife of the governor, Justice Suzette Wike commended the governor for including women in his cabinet, adding that, that has made women of Rivers State a role model as in most sensitive position are occupied by women.
She prayed the womenfold and society at large to create that enabling environment for both men and women have a peaceful co-existence.
While advocating for equality between the girl child and the boy child as well to eliminate social vices as well as any harmful practice in the society like, female circumcision.
Highlight of the occasion was the presentation of cash award to deserving winners from the Catching The Train which Oyigbo came first while Okrika LGA came first in the Match Past. ####
