Rivers Rerun: Wike Alleges Plot By DSS, Army To Arrest PDP Leaders

Rivers State governor Nyesom Wike has alleged that there is a plot by the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigerian Army to arrest prominent leaders and members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on the eve of the March 19, 2016 rerun elections in the state.
He also alleged that chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Chief Davies Ibiamu Ikanya, had written a letter to the director-general of the DSS and the Nigerian Army High Command, requesting the arrest of the PDP chieftains.
Wike, who spoke at the weekend in Luwa community in Khana local government area of the state , during the 50th birthday anniversary celebration of Senator Lee Maeba, said he intercepted the letter by Ikanya to the security agencies.
The governor reiterated that the people of the state will resist any attempt to use the security forces to rig the rerun elections.
Meanwhile, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Rivers South East senatorial district, Senator Magnus Ngei Abe, has enjoined people of Ogoni not to allow party differences and affiliation to affect their affinity and unity.
Abe, who made the call while speaking on the sidelines of the 50th birthday anniversary celebration of Senator Lee Maeba said political differences are mere approaches of addressing the developmental challenges of the people and should not be allowed to cause disaffection among Ogoni brothers and sisters.
He said that all leaders in Ogoni, irrespective of their political affiliations should be able to come together and discuss issues that affect the progress of the people without rancour, adding that such would accelerate the development of Ogoni.
“Like I have always said politics should be about the people and it should not be about enmity. We can still be friends.###
