Fear of Dissolution: Rivers Councils CTC Chairmen In Looting Spree …Billions of Naira Missing

samuel ejekwuInformation filtered into our political desk had it that in no distant time, Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike will sack the chairmen and members of the Caretaker Committee across the twenty-three local government areas of Rivers State following the expiration of their three (3) months tenure in office.

Since the assumption of office by the current team of CTC chairmen to man the affairs of the twenty three (23) LGAs, the council workers are passing through trials ad pains due to non payment of salary and other entitlements. According to Mr. Opubo Amakiri, a social commentator and pundits since the creation of Rivers State, the present set of CTC chairmen are worst in terms of community development.

Mr. Amakiri condemned the lackadaisical attitude of the CTC chairmen. The political pundit further frowned at their lackluster performance which he said has placed permanent sadness on the faces of the rural dwellers and the council staff.

Our correspondent, from the various councils report that the tenure of the CTC members expired on the February 9, 2016. The council chairmen, loyalists and political appointees in some local government areas have entangled themselves in looting spree and other serious administrative fraud such as reckless spending.

Reports filed in by our correspondent contained that a CTC chairman in one of the Ogoni speaking LGAs has carted away council properties including computer accessories worth millions of naira. The report also revealed that in that the same council political appointees have disconnected and removed Air conditioners fixed in their offices by the previous administration of the council.

In another LGA in the Rivers West Senatorial District, the CTC chairman has a serious quarrel with his members over the diversion of funds meant for the development of the council.

Most of the CTC chairmen are living in affluence and driving the best cars in town, while the council workers are wallowing in poverty and penury. They frequently absent themselves from duty, thereby frustrating the administrative affairs of their respective councils.

The National Coordinator of Rivers Democratic Coalition (RDC), Elder Emeku Orji has called on the Economic and Finance Crimes Commission, EFCC and other relevant agencies to arrest and prosecute any CTC chairman found wanting in the discharge of his statutory responsibilities. ###
