The youths of Belema Community in the Akuku-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State declared that the recent appointment and inauguration of Belema Youth Organization, BYO is legal and constitutionally.
Addressing a press conference in Port Harcourt at the weekend the newly inaugurated chairman of the Belema Youth Organization, BYO, Comrade Ipalibo Apamabo said that there is nothing wrong with the appointment and inauguration of new executive officers of BYO.
Comrade Apamabo who was reacting swiftly to a press statement issued by one HRH Ibinabo Kalaoriye, the Amanyanabo of Belema Community that the appointment and inauguration of the new executives of BYO is illegal.
According to Comrade Ipalibo Apamabo, the chairman of BYO, Ibinabo Kalaoriye has never being an Amanyanabo in Belema Community, adding that there is a legal battle considering the leadership of Belema that is currently pending in the law court. He pointed out that Government has never recognized Kalaoriye as the head of Belema community.
Comrade Ipalibo Apamabo, the chairman of BYO told Kalaoriye to stop parading himself as the head of Belema town. He maintained that Kalaoriye has not visited Belema in the past five (5) years, “but he (Kalaoriye) can only go to his father’s own town, Harry’s town in the Degema Local Government Area”.
Comrade Ipalibo Apamabo said that since he and his executive came on board as the new officers of BYO, Belema is calm and peaceful.
The BYO chairman debunked Kalaoriye’s claims that Belema is boiling, describing Kalaoriye as a self-acclaimed and self-styled leader who also ignite youth restiveness by unilaterally appointing members of youth body who are leaving in his house as to usurp the legitimate functions of the original youths of Belema.
Comrade Ipalibo Apamabo noted that, “If the unholy actions of Kalaoriye remain unchecked they have the tendencies of causing youth crisis in Belema.
Also speaking the secretary of BYO, Comrade Ibidiebo Gogo frowned at the activities of Kalaoriye, stating that they are capable of fomenting problems in Belema.
Comrade Ibidiebo Gogo averred that for the past seven (7) years the youths of Belema have not benefited any employment from the multi-nationals doing businesses in the area. He accused Kalaoriye and some other chiefs of converting youth employment chances for cash for themselves.
“As we are talking the youths are impoverished and idle. Let the government call Kalaoriye to order. We are on ground and we do not want to fight”, Comrade Ibidiebo Gogo said.
The Belema Youth Organization applauded the Caretaker Committee Chairman of the Akuku-Toru Local Government Area, Hon. Rowland Sekibo for his timely intervention to restore peace in Belema town. They also commended the Commissioner for Youths Development, Hon. Princewill Ogbobula and the Chairman of the Rivers State chapter of National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Amb. Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo for the courage and the roles they played to bring orderliness in the area. Comrade Ibidiebo Gogo had earlier stated that the formation of the New BYO executives is all inclusive and purposeful.
“There is no faction in BYO, we have only one executive body headed by Comrade Ipalibo Apamabo, Ibidiebo Gogo concluded.
